After the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards, the world was stunned by Kanye West, a well known rapper and designer, stating he’d be running for president in 2020. To some it was a joke. To others, like Kanye himself, it’s a serious campaign.
But the real question here is: Should someone with no real political experience take the highest position in government?
Kanye has gone on record saying that he is no politician in an interview with Vanity Fair. “I hate politics. I’m not a politician at all. I care about the truth, and I just care about human beings. I just want everyone to win, that’s all I can say, and I think we can,” he said. Though in theory everyone winning is possible, in today’s society it is not entirely attainable.
Politicians are out to help themselves. Kanye might be president, but he is not the only one to make laws. There are 100 Senators and 435 Representatives that have their own agenda as well.
And if Kanye is really about helping the people, he will have to help about 50 million people who are poor and millions of others who are not high class.
Going into Kanye’s financial history, he is not very responsible with money. Kanye recently opened up about his financial struggles. He is $53 million in debt, and is begging for the likes of fashions houses, Adidas, and even respected business magnate Bill Gates to bail him out.
Even with some drawbacks, people are still for Kanye 2020. Fans of the idea went to Twitter to voice their support. One main reason for their support is because of his egalitarian views. His words have influenced people of lower and middle class because he was in their position at one point. He understands their struggles.
But what the people of American who support Kanye don’t understand is that even if he did make it to the White House, he will not be well-respected. No one will take Kanye serious as a president. Thus, making a stalemate between Congress and the President in what should be passed and what should not be.
Kanye should not be taken as a serious choice for a presidential candidate. He does not have any credentials making him worthy of consideration. Though some presidents have not made the brightest decisions in the past, Kanye is the opposite of what a president should be: a respectable, intelligent, well spoken leader.
