This year the girls’ swim team has been undefeated under the leadership of Captains Imani Ameen and Taiya Jones. The head coach of this reigning team is Mr. Patula, and the assistant coach is Bryant Hayes. The girls swim team started off the season by reclaiming their throne at the South Side invitationals held at South Shore International College Preparatory Academy.
Following this amazing way to start the season, the girls have claimed victories against multiple teams around the city. Thus far, the girls have swam against Percy Julian High School, Kenwood Academy, Washington High School, Gwendolyn Brooks High School, Eric Solorio Academy High School, Hubbard High School, Morgan Park Academy, Back of the Yards, and Chicago High School for Agricultural Science.
The girls also took second place at Evergreen Park’s invitational. This was their first time at this event, and while being amongst less diverse teams, the girls did not hesitate to put their best foot forward. The team was very disappointed when they took second place because of a lack of points due to Lindblom not having a diving team, however, they left a rememble impression at Evergreen Park High School.
The next big event for the girls was CPS City Relays. Although this is a fun and friendly event, the lady eagles did not back down. The girls placed fifth out of thirty five teams while also having fun. This event hosts a variety of swim relays such as the eight by twenty five relay in which eight swimmers complete one length of the pool.
The next event is Conference, and there is no doubt that the girls will succeed in this event and take first place. An amazing incentive of this event is having the opportunity to push both coaches into the water fully clothed.
As the seniors could not have pulled off an amazing season alone, there are many freshmen to recognize. With prior swimming experience under their belt Samantha Hernandez, Cayla Williams, Cayra Williams, and Izel Hernandez have greatly contributed to the team’s success. They have taken first place in almost every event they have swam and have no problem with telling competitors to “eat their bubbles” The girls’ swim season is coming to a closure, but this is not the last you will hear of Lindblom’s girls’ swim team.
