The Lindblom Track & Field team had a great season last year and is looking forward to improving and expanding upon the results of state. Last season finished off with two students going to state and performing extremely well in the IHSA Boys 2A Championships held at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston. Current Senior Eduardo Rodriguez qualified for both the 800m and 1600m race.
Rodriguez only raced in the 800m which led to him performing extremely well in both the prelims and finals. He came in 8th place with a time of 1:57:64 which beat his preliminary time by a full second. Fellow Senior Joel Delgado raced in the 1600m race and came through with a time of 10:19:76. With such a great looking last season, this upcoming season has many changes with the goal of improvement.
The new boys head coach Alexander Sutphen is very optimistic about the new season. He hopes for the boys team to go to state in over 4 events this year. His main focuses for the season are the 800m, 4x800m, 4x400m, 400m, 1600m, and 3200m races. He believes that this season is still up in the air since many students have not declared that they are returning for another season or that they graduated. Nonetheless, the boys have already begun their pre-season training and continue to train daily with no breaks in order to reach a new level. The first race is scheduled for February 11th at Evanston High School at 10:30 a.m.
